  • The SMB Guide to Making Your Website and Documents Digitally Accessible

The SMB Guide to Making Your Website and Documents Digitally Accessible

Have you ever considered how many potential customers leave your website because it isn’t accessible? It’s not just speculation a UK Click-Away Pound survey found that 69% of disabled internet users abandon websites that fail accessibility standards. For small and medium-sized businesses, that’s a major missed opportunity.

So, how can you make your website and documents digitally accessible? This guide offers practical, actionable steps to ensure your content is welcoming to everyone.

Understand How People Navigate Your Site

Just because your site works for you doesn’t mean it works for everyone. Some users rely on keyboards instead of a mouse, while others use screen readers or voice commands. Testing with real users who use assistive technologies can reveal barriers you never noticed.

Invite feedback from individuals who depend on these tools. Observe how they navigate, where they struggle, and how they interpret your content. Often, small design tweaks can eliminate big obstacles.

    Make Visuals Accessible

Visual accessibility is one of the most overlooked areas. Millions of people have visual impairments and need clear, high-contrast content.

Ensure text stands out against its background. A contrast ratio of at least 4.5:1 for normal text is considered accessible. Free tools like WebAIM’s Contrast Checker make this easy.

    Create Accessible Documents

Businesses often share key information through PDFs, Word files, or presentations—but many of these are inaccessible by default.

When creating PDFs, make sure they’re tagged with structural elements like headings and tables for screen readers. Add alt text for images and organize content logically. Always test documents before publishing to confirm they’re readable for everyone.

Simplify Reading and Reduce Cognitive Load

Some users have cognitive disabilities, but even those without benefit from clear, simple content.

    • Use plain language and avoid jargon.
    • Break text into short paragraphs with clear headings.
    • Choose easy-to-read fonts like Arial or Verdana, at least 14pt for body text.
    • Avoid all caps and italics—they’re harder to read.

    Support Hearing and Mobility Needs

Accessibility isn’t just visual—it includes hearing and physical challenges.

    • Add captions and transcripts for all video and audio content. This helps deaf users and benefits SEO.
    • Ensure full keyboard navigation. All links, buttons, and forms should work with the Tab key. Avoid features requiring fine motor skills, like drag-and-drop.

Keep Improving Through Feedback and Analytics

Accessibility is an ongoing process. Test every update and encourage feedback. Include an accessibility statement on your site with contact details for support.

Analytics can also reveal gaps—if users abandon forms or pages, it may signal an accessibility issue.

Make Accessibility Part of Your Brand

For SMBs, accessibility might feel like another task on a long list—but it’s an investment in reputation and customer trust. Accessible websites show your business is inclusive and professional, while reducing legal risk under standards like the ADA.

The best part? Accessibility and great design can coexist. With thoughtful choices in color, layout, and language, you can create a modern, visually appealing site that works for everyone.

Ready to Make Your Website Accessible?

Accessibility isn’t just a technical requirement—it’s about people. It’s about ensuring everyone can read your content, complete forms, and download documents. For business owners, that’s the essence of good service.

Every step—checking color contrast, adding alt text, tagging PDFs, testing keyboard navigation—brings you closer to an inclusive experience.

  • New Port Richey Rotary Honors Veterans and Service Members

Wednesday November 5th, the New Port Richey Rotary Club proudly hosted a special event to honor our current and past service members. The gathering was a heartfelt tribute to the men and women who have served our nation, and it brought together community leaders, veterans, and supporters in a spirit of gratitude and respect.

Congressman Gus Bilirakis was in attendance, continuing his long-standing commitment to recognizing

local heroes and advocating for veterans. His presence underscored the importance of community support for those who have served.

The event also welcomed several distinguished local leaders, including:

We were especially honored to have five World War II veterans in attendance true heroes whose service and sacrifice continue to inspire generations.

Our team looks forward to joining the community on November 7th to celebrate an organization whose impact continues to make Pasco County a safer place for every child.

Put these together real quick, thought they might work as blog posts – I can edit them as needed if anything stands out. I was thinking of linking the congressman one up to the LinkedIn this week, and likely doing the paint the night blue the week of the event.

  • Invincia Technologies: Rising Above the AWS Outage

Invincia Technologies: Rising Above the AWS Outage

Over the past 48 hours, the tech world faced a major disruption: an AAWS outage that rippled across countless platforms and services. This wasn’t just an AWS hiccup it impacted Outlook plugins, hosted tools, and software solutions that rely on AWS infrastructure. For businesses everywhere, this meant downtime, frustration, and urgent calls for help.

At Invincia Technologies, we experienced triple our standard call volume and ticket submissions during this period. But here’s the story we’re proud to share: we rallied like the amazing Partner to our clients that we are.

Our team worked around the clock, leveraging expertise, collaboration, and sheer determination to keep our clients moving forward. Every issue big or small was addressed with precision and care. Today, we can confidently say: all AWS related problems are behind us.

This outage was a reminder of two things:

    1. Cloud dependency is real when AWS stumbles, the ripple effect is massive.
    2. The right MSP makes all the difference because when the unexpected happens, you need a partner who doesn’t just react but delivers.

To our clients: thank you for your patience and trust. To our team: thank you for proving, once again, why Invincia Technologies sets the standard for managed services.

  • In Loving Memory of Gary “Buck” Joiner

In Loving Memory of Gary “Buck” Joiner, Sr. April 22, 2025 | Age 84

With deep love and admiration, we celebrate the remarkable life of Gary “Buck” Joiner, Sr., who passed away peacefully on April 22, 2025, at the age of 84. A man of uncommon heart, steady purpose, and a vibrant spirit, Buck left the world better than he found it—and left everyone who knew him better for having known him.

Buck wasn’t one to simply talk about making a difference, he lived it. A tireless volunteer with West Pasco Little League, he was affectionately known as the “dancing umpire,” a role that earned him the honor of serving at the Little League World Series. He also gave his time generously to organizations such as the NRA, Future Farmers of America, and Feeding Pasco’s Elderly. He was a proud Rotarian, Paul Harris Fellow, Mason, Shriner, Pasco County Mosquito Control Commissioner, and a beloved King Pithla—each title a testament to his lifelong dedication to service and leadership.

If Buck wasn’t hunting or fishing, you’d likely find him manning the smoker or the stove, cooking for any number of local charities, including The Angelus, Community Service Council, Pasco Appraiser Gives, the Rotary Wild Game Dinner, the Holiday Rotary Extravaganza, Chasco Fiesta, and hundreds more. Most recently, he dedicated himself to helping local hurricane victims, towing his smoker behind his truck to serve thousands of hot meals with his sleeves rolled up and his ever-present warm smile.

Born in Alabama and raised in Sopchoppy, FL, Buck carried his roots with pride. He believed in the power of compassion, connection, and action to build strong communities—and he lived those values every day. He spent more than 26 years with the Florida Department of Agriculture, but his greatest impact was felt in the lives he touched far beyond his work.

Those who knew him will never forget his huge smile, great laugh, and unwavering generosity. He had a gift for seeing the opportunity to do good in every situation. He believed that kindness was a strength, and he lived by that principle in every interaction. Friends, neighbors, and even strangers all said the same thing: “Buck is just a good man.”

Buck is survived by a wide circle of family, mentees, and beloved friends. His absence will be deeply felt, but his presence is forever woven into the community he served and loved so deeply. He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Kathy.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 17, at 11:00 a.m. at The Concourse Rotary Pavilion, 11919 Alric Pottberg Rd, Shady Hills, FL 34610. Following the service, Buck’s crew will serve pork and chicken, just as he wanted. All who were touched by Buck’s kindness are welcome to join in fellowship, laughter, and gratitude for a life so beautifully lived.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Angelus in Buck’s honor. The Angelus, 12413 Hudson Ave, Hudson, FL 34669.
